It’s Canon Now: Resurrection Heals *everything*

Recently, a gaming party went about the unenviable task of bringing back a deceased comrade from the lands of the dead. This particular luckless fellow had an additional issue: as part of shuffling off the mortal coil, this dead ranger had also managed to get the bulk of his right arm bitten off. This meant that the cleric’s Raise Dead spell, while effective, would leave the revived player with a one-armed ranger.

The cleric was capable of casting Raise Dead (5th level) but to re-arm the ranger the party would also require a Regeneration spell – which, at 7th level, was beyond the cleric’s immediately capabilities. Bringing their dead friend to the more power clerics of Poseidon was therefore required. But, so long as they were forced to beseech a more powerful temple for aid, why not skip the two-step altogether and ask for a Resurrection spell. As the spell description makes clear, unlike Raise Dead the Resurrection spell returns the receiver to completeness.

The condition of the remains is not a factor. So long as some small portion of the creature’s body still exists, it can be resurrected, but the portion receiving the spell must have been part of the creature’s body at the time of death… The creature can have been dead no longer than 10 years per caster level.

Upon completion of the spell, the creature is immediately restored to full hit points, vigor, and health, with no loss of prepared spells.

This means that our ranger gets his arms back but further, he is rendered pristine – every scar, every callus, every minor injury, hidden disease or congenital issue is thereby cured and removed. Which means the Resurrected character is as fresh as the day he or she was born – all skin unblemished, all scar tissue gone.
