RECAP: Aboard the Gin & Tonic, 4-26-20
|Notes from last time…
- Residue results from Djinn says that it was railguns, not missiles, that hit Palmer’s summer house. No chemical or high explosive residue, no radiation. Among the space-faring races, the only one that typically use railguns are the Ursae; projectile was likely ice, perhaps a centimetre or two in diameter, moving at about .1c and delivering approximately 5-10 megajoules of energy on impact.
- A remote investigation of the bridge area of the Bettendorf; review of Palmer’s storage locker revealed that the only thing missing was a set of books referred to collective as the Steiner Library. Abregado Steiner was a collector of alien artifacts dealing with various aspects of the paranormal, and Steiner’s collection was considered one of the finest and most comprehensive, containing many unique and valuable items. He died about a year ago, and his son, an acquaintance of Palmer, reached out to Palmer to see about disposing of some of the items, including the Library. About three weeks ago, someone reached out to Palmer about the possible purchase of the Library, but indicated they wanted to inspect it before delivering on purchase price. Palmer expected to get 12-15 Mcr from the library, with a 1.2 to 1.5 Mcr commission to Palmer – substantive, but nothing to destroy an asteroid over. Palmer did not read the Library; Jackie did scan it for explosives, pathogens, etc but found nothing out of the ordinary.
- Calgary System Authority (CASA) forces successfully deployed a containment net around the Bettendorf prior to the fusion reactor field being breached; Palmer and Black were briefly questioned by CASA, no further action needed.
- Chopper came to the G&T and over the course of 2.5 days successfully released Dr. Robertsohn from the cryo chamber. Black transferred her 20 KCr for services rendered. Robertsohn later examined the Bettendorf creature, but did not discover anything substantive outside of Dr. Wagner’s analysis.
- During the jump to Mirabilis, Weber finally recovered from surgery sufficiently to leave medlab. Dr. Wagner advised he try and lay off the scotch for “at least a friggin day, for pete’s sakes.”
At Mirabilis…
- Representatives from Spofulam Corporation collected Dr. Robertsohn, leaving an invitation to meet Elren Sofulam at the Seven Grand the next evening.
- Palmer and Tamm go into the station so Palmer can “make a few calls.” Palmer arranges for Tamm to receive a body pistol and two mags of ceramic ammo.
- Weber and Dr. Wagner go to Ascensio Cargo Control and arrange for cargo to Greenpernt. The pickings are suspeciously sweet, and they accumulate 135 mt of cargo contracts totaling nearly .5 Mcr in haulage fees.
- Doyle stayed aboard, keeping an eye on the ship and the kidnapper. She has now been under coma-level sedation for over a month; subcutaneous fat has decreased about 30%, her limbs have started to contract and move toward a fetal position; minor infections are springing up and are being dealt with by the autodoc with a combination of steroids and antibiotics; her hair is beginning to fall out; blood-oxygen is hovering near 62 mmHg and autodoc is recommending intubation and supplemental oxygen if it decreases further.
Capt. Black attends the meeting with Elren Spofulam…
- 2 Mcr for return of Dr. Robertsohn
- Wants the G&T to “take care of the Ursae” who are stealing their scientists
- Will smooth out the G&T‘s commercial issues at Greenpernt
- Will send a Spofulam representative with more details
Cargo will take a couple days to be transported and loaded aboard the G&T – the volume is requiring you to use your cargo pods for the first time.
Palmer says he can get you ship-based weapons, hardware and installation, but wants to know what if anything you’d want from a personal weapon standpoint. You guys wanted to consult Doyle about that, since he’s ship security and knows weapons. Black also has military experience, but he wasn’t a space marine or anything.
